What does it mean to be human in Western Illinois? This is a question that guides Sue Scott as she carries out the purpose, vision, and mission of the Western Illinois Museum.

We visited this local non-profit and had discussions about the business model that supports their work. What is their product? How do they curate collections? Where does the funding come from, and how is it spent? How do they provide value and meaning in our local community?

Sue explained that "we don't own the artifacts, we hold them in public trust" before showing us some of their unique items. We were able to experience and interact with artifacts while learning about their connection to history.

This was the first of several upcoming business visits to be requested or arranged by our current team, based on their interests. Jinx works at the Museum during the summer, and opened the door for us to learn more about this growing community organization.
